When a new version of Marvin is available, you will see a notification in the upper-left corner of Marvin's home page. As long as you have an active subscription, you can download the update from your Doom account on our website.
- Sign in to your account's purchase history page.
- Find the transaction and click on the corresponding payment id (e.g., #ds-1979) to view the purchase details.
- In the products section near the bottom, click the download link. This button automatically downloads the latest installer files when a new version is available.
BEFORE OPENING THE NEW VERSION, there are a few steps you must take to ensure a smooth transition from the old database file to the new one. If it's your first time performing an update, we highly recommend reading through all of the steps below before beginning.
in your OLD version
- Navigate to the settings page and take note of any custom settings you may have made. Tip: Screenshots of each tab are a quick way to do this. If necessary, download a copy of your custom logo from the show info tab by clicking the edit show info button and then the export logo button below the image.
- Navigate to the the users page and take note of the user accounts and their assigned roles as well.
- Navigate to the manage your software license page, deactivate your license key, and take note of the registered email and key information. Tip: Copy and paste these into a text document for quick reference later.
- If you open Marvin from your local computer (e.g., a file on your desktop), close your old version and set it aside for the time being. If Marvin was being hosted on FileMaker Server, close the remote database in the Admin Console, download a copy, and then remove the file.
in the NEW version
- Open the new version of Marvin on your local computer.
- On the manage your software license page, enter the email address and license key that you noted earlier and click the activate button.
- Navigate to the the users page and re-add the user accounts.
- Navigate to the settings page and update each tab as necessary.
- If you host Marvin on FileMaker Server, close the local file, upload it to your server, and then open it in the Admin Console.
You're all set! If you run into any problems, don't hesitate to contact Doom Support.
Note: Only one version of Marvin can be active at a time. The most common issue is forgetting to deactivate your old version before attempting to activate the new one. If this happens, Marvin tries to automatically correct the discrepancy, and you should be able to resolve it quickly by following the prompts.
Additionally, if you forgot to note your settings or user accounts, you can deactivate the new version, re-activate the old one to get what you need, and then follow the same steps above to update again. Once you've confirmed that everything is working as expected in the new version, it's safe to archive/delete your old one.
