Reference the overview page to learn more about Marvin's changes tool. For a comprehensive list of the differences between shots in two cuts, you'll need "DCUT" files exported from the shots tool. If you only need basic information about cut lengths, you can use "DSUB" files exported from the subcaps tool.
Tip: After each cut or turnover, create and save a DCUT or DSUB file. Then you already have an "original" version ready to test against any "newer" cut or turnover.
using DCUT files
- In Avid, export an EDL of the original sequence with clips and markers prepped for the shots tool. Next, export an EDL of the newer sequence that was prepped in the same manner.
- In Marvin, import the EDL from the original sequence into the shots tool, confirm that everything looks correct, and export a DCUT file. Tip: Name the file with a date, description, or the word "old" to easily identify it as your original cut.
- Return to the home page and repeat step 2 with the EDL of the revised sequence. You will now have two different DCUT files. Tip: Name the file with a date, description, or the word "new" to easily identify it as your updated cut.
- Return to the home page and click on the changes tool. Select the two DCUT files and click the compare button.
Marvin will analyze the DCUT files and report detailed changes between them.
using DSUB files
- In Avid, export subcaps of your shot ids from the original sequence. Next, export subcaps from the newer sequence. Tip: If you use subcaps for non-VFX banners or slates, you may need to sub-sequence the shot id video track first, so they're not included in the export.
- In Marvin, import the original subcaps TXT file into the subcaps tool, confirm that everything looks correct, and export a DSUB file. Tip: Name the file with a date, description, or the word "old" to easily identify it as your original cut.
- Return to the home page and repeat step 2 with the revised subcaps TXT file. You will now have two different DSUB files. Tip: Name the file with a date, description, or the word "new" to easily identify it as your updated cut.
- Return to the home page and click on the changes tool. Set the file type to DSUB, select the two DSUB files, and click the compare button.
Marvin will analyze the DSUB files and report basic trims and extensions to shots.
