You can update the handle timecode fields for imported shots, even though EDL exports do not include them, by having Marvin estimate their value using the source timecode and handle frame length.
to calculate handle timecode
- Click the actions button
- Click calculate handles
- Click calculate
For each shot in the found set, the handle in and handle out timecodes will be updated based on the frame rate selected in settings and the value of each shot’s handle frames. Specifically, the number of handle frames will be subtracted from the source in timecode and added to the source out timecode.
notes
- Marvin is not connected to any media files, so it cannot guarantee that the calculated timecodes actually exist and should only be used as a reference. If you need accurate handle timecodes, use an XML export instead of an EDL.
- In your user preference settings, there is an auto-estimate source handles checkbox. When checked, Marvin will automatically calculate the handle timecodes whenever an EDL is imported.
example
Shot data imported from EDL:
shot id | source in | source out | handle in | handle out |
101_ds0010 | 23:56:24:02 | 23:56:26:18 |
Settings: 24 fps frame rate and 10 frame handles
shot id | source in | source out | handle in | handle out |
101_ds0010 | 23:56:24:02 | 23:56:26:18 | 23:56:23:16 | 23:56:27:04 |
