You can add a column of custom metadata, which can be merged with existing master clips when reimported into Avid.

to add a column

1. Click the actions button
2. Click insert column
3. Fill out the form (see parameters above)
4. Click insert

For every clip, a new column will be added for custom metadata. 

Warning: Older versions of Media Composer do not allow spaces or ALL CAPS in custom column names.  Additionally, names longer than 14 characters will not merge correctly and may corrupt the bin's metadata.  Check our Avid bugs page to see if/when that limitation has been fixed in your version of Media Composer.

If you don't see the custom columns after importing the ALE, try the following:

1. Close and re-open the bin
2. Right-click in the bin and select Choose Columns...
3. Select the custom columns, which appear at the end of the list, and click OK
