Good question... depends on what you have in mind!  Marvin's various Multi-Find actions can help you find and confirm that you have all of the correct shots/versions in the cut, for instance.

In the Shots tool, you can import EDLs and either search by shot id or version/clip name.  This depends on whether your user preferences are set to import using the marker data (for shot id) or set to ignore markers (for clip names).  You can then export the matching data as either a spreadsheet or subcaps to locate them in the sequence.

In the Clips tool, you can import ALEs of a bin and search by version/clip name.  Essentially, sub-sequence your vfx tracks, or just the intended drop-in layer, into a bin with nothing else.  Then set the bin display to show reference clips, so the ALE represents only your vfx versions.  You can search for the clips and then optionally export an updated ALE to merge back into Media Composer to identify the master clips in the bin.  This is so much easier and faster using Marvin Jr.'s matching action.

In the Markers tool, you can import markers and search for the shot ids.  Then you can export only the found shots to import back into Media Composer as a different color and on an upper video track.

And in the SubCaps tool, you can import subcaps and search for shot ids.  Then you can export only the found shots to import back into Media Composer to quickly identify them in the sequence.

Are there other, more specific workflows that you're interested in?
